Chile fall to defeat, with Vidal sent off and Alexis substituted

Argentina’s goalless draw with Brazil in San Juan was enough for Argentina to book their ticket to Qatar 2022. Lautaro Martinez started the game and was replaced at half time by his Inter team-mate Joaquin Correa.

Chile were beaten 2-0 at home to Ecuador on an evening to forget for La Roja, with Arturo Vidal sent off after just 13 minutes for a mistimed tackle. Alexis Sanchez was replaced by Jean Meneses after 36 minutes.

Here are the standings in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying group:

Brazil 35 Q Argentina 29 Q Ecuador 23 Colombia 17 Peru 17 Chile 16 Uruguay 16 Bolivia 15 Paraguay 13 Venezuela 7
