The goalkeeper reacts to his first game of the season

MILAN – Ionut Andrei Radu was given the nod in Inter’s 3-2 Coppa Italia win over Empoli for his first start of the season. The 25-year-old was unlucky enough to score an own goal when Patrick Cutrone’s header rebounded off his foot after hitting the bar, but the team bounced back to win in extra time, with the goalkeeper able to celebrate along his team-mates at the end.

“I knew it would be a demanding game for me,” the shotstopper explained to Inter TV. “I know [Aurelio] Andreazzoli and the type of football his teams play. Empoli came here to get a result and we were expecting that sort of game. So many teams give their all and even more when they come to San Siro.

“[Andrea] Ranocchia scored a wonderful goal. It’ll become a meme! I’m pleased for him and [Stefano] Sensi. I know how hard he works in training and it’s fantastic that he was the match-winner. Andrea and Stefano are incredible guys.

“As for my performance, I must say that I scored, albeit in my own goal [laughter]. I’m pleased to have played my first game of the season and to have got the win.”
