Our match-winner against Venezia describes his ninth league of the season

MILAN – Inter always keep going until the end, be it the 90th or 120th minute. There is plenty of proof of this from the last few games, be it through Alexis Sanchez, Andrea Ranocchia, Stefano Sensi or, as of today, Edin Dzeko, as the Bosnian’s ninth league goal of the season earnt the Nerazzurri a crucial 2-1 win over Venezia late on.

Denzel Dumfries’ cross was headed home by Dzeko to earn Inter all three points against an impressive Venezia side. Here’s how the striker described that triumphant moment: “When you score in the last minute, it’s normal to celebrate in a frenzy. The team had certainly missed my goals, but the most important thing is winning. It was wonderful to score in the 90th minute.”

The forward also explained how much Simone Inzaghi believes in him: “The boss understands his football. He played the game himself and he knows that I’m capable of winning the team the match in the last minute, even when I haven’t been playing that well.

“There are no easy matches in Serie A. We’ve seen that today and it was one of the toughest games of the year. We’re off the back of two cup ties that went to 120 minutes and a difficult game in Bergamo. You have to dig in every now and then, but what matters is winning and claiming all three points. They defended in numbers and left us very little space, so we had to be patient to get the goal.

“The international break comes at the right time. We’re a bit tired and we hope the pitch improves because games become difficult if it’s in that sort of state. The ball was getting held up and everything gets harder. Now we can rest and then we’ll think about AC Milan. We got the win today even though we had to dig in, but what matters is the three points.”
