We look ahead to the game which will be the 22nd time the teams have faced each other in this competition

MILAN – At 21:00 CET tonight Marco Di Bello's whistle will set in motion Inter v Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. It's a one-off game and will determine who reaches the semi-finals. The two clubs are familiar foes in this competition and we take a look ahead to the encounter by reviewing past encounters and stats.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS

Inter and Roma have faced each other 22 times in the Coppa Italia, with the Nerazzurri winning 11, the Giallorossi seven, and three draws. Inter have a nine-game unbeaten run against Roma (three wins, six draws) and the club have never gone ten matches undefeated against the Giallorossi, having first met in the 1929/30 season. Inter and Roma have come across each other four times in the Coppa Italia and on all but one of these occasions have the Nerazzurri won. The only time the Giallorossi overcame Inter at this stage was back in 1986 when they also went on to win the trophy.

Since the 2004/05 season Inter and Roma have met 13 times in the Coppa Italia, making it the most frequently played fixture in this competition during this period: Inter came out on top seven times, Roma four times, with the other two games ending all-square.

In the last seven occasions in which Inter and Roma have met in the Coppa Italia - which have always been in either the quarter-finals, semi-finals or the final - they hold equal records: three wins apiece and a draw.

PREVIOUS GAMES AT SAN SIRO

In the last 13 games between Inter and Roma at the Meazza in all competitions there have been four wins for either side and five draws. Inter have won eight home games over Roma in the Coppa Italia, have lost twice, and have drawn once.

FORM BOOK

After being knocked out on three consecutive occasions at this stage, Inter have got past the last two quarter-final stages in the Coppa Italia and haven't reached the semi-finals on three consecutive occasions since 2011, where they racked up an eight-season streak.

Roma have been knocked out in their last two Coppa Italia quarter-finals, losing 7-1 to Fiorentina in 2019 and 3-1 to Juventus in 2020.

GENERAL STATS

Inter's last six goals in the Coppa Italia have been scored by six different players, three of them coming after the 90th minute.

Only Atalanta (17) have shared their goals around more players than Inter in the league this season (16).

Inter (nine) and Roma (seven) are two of the three teams that have scored the most goals from corners in Serie A 2021/22, with Bologna in between them (eight).

Roma have scored more goals in the last quarter of an hour of the first half in the top flight (13). The last three times the Giallorossi have found the net in Serie A have come in this period of the game.

PLAYER FOCUS

Edin Dzeko made 260 appearances for Roma, scoring 119 goals. The Bosnian marksman has faced his former side in three competitive games in his career, scoring once in the only time he played against the Giallorossi as an Inter player back in December 2021. The other two occasions were back in 2014 while Dzeko was still at Manchester City and Roma were in the same Champions League group as the English side.

Lautaro Martinez has played more minutes against Roma (364) without scoring or assisting than any other team while representing Inter in all competitions.

Only Fabian Ruiz (five) has scored more goals from outside the box in Serie A 2021/22 than Hakan Calhanoglu (four). Both the Turk and Nicolo Barella have claimed five assists; only two teams out of the five major European leagues can claim to have at least two players providing as many this season. They are Bayern Munich (Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane) and Liverpool (Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson.)

Matias Vecino's scoring record against Roma is better than against any other club. He has found the net against the Giallorossi on three occasions, once each with his right foot, left foot and head.

Ivan Perisic has struck twice for Inter against Roma in competitive matches: in March 2019 and April 2019. Both these games in Serie A ended 1-1. The Croat has now scored 50 times for the Nerazzurri in all competitions, and out of the players currently in the squad only Lautaro (61) has more goals to his name.

The last time Marcelo Brozovic found the net for Inter in a domestic game was against Roma in Serie A at the Meazza.

Denzel Dumfries opened his scoring account for the club against Tuesday night's opponents, heading in back in December in the league.

Aleksandar Kolarov featured 132 times for Roma between 2017 and il 2020, scoring 19 times and assisting on 18 occasions.
