The winger reflects on Coppa Italia win

ROMA - Inter came away 4-2 winners in the Coppa Italia final as they defeated Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus side in Rome. Matteo Darmian put in a classic performance, with great tactical play, discipline and running. The Italian winger spoke to Mediaset and Inter TV after the match. “It was not an easy game, but we know we are a great team. We knew what we needed to do and we did it right at the start when we took the lead. Then the game turned on its head, but we did well not to lose our heads. We managed to equalise and then go on to win the cup. It was an important trophy for us, for our fans and for the club.”

What’s the secret to Inter’s success? Mental strength and unity according to Darmian. “We conceded two goals which were perhaps avoidable, but we had one aim in mind. This year, our attitude has matured and we’ve shown the strength we have in this group, like at the end when we were all ready to celebrate together. Everyone contributed, whether they started the game or came on as a substitute.”

While Inter will be celebrating tonight, they will soon be looking ahead to their upcoming fixtures. “We’ve got two matches left. They’re going to be difficult, but we know full well what we must do. We want to win them both. Football teaches you that nothing should be taken for granted and we want to finish this season in the best way possible.”
