Lautaro and Correa taste glory in the showdown between the winners of the Copa America and the Euros with a 3-0 win over Italy

WEMBLEY – There were three Inter players on the pitch in the 2022 Finalissima which saw European champions Italy take on Copa America holders Argentina, who clinched success in the South American showpiece competition on 10 July 2021 for the first time in 28 years thanks to a 1-0 victory over Brazil at the Maracana in Rio De Janeiro.

The Finalissima was contested for the first time in 29 years, with Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa’s side turning in an extraordinary performance. The Inter number 10 opened the scoring on 28 minutes after a fine assist by Leo Messi, while El Toro then served up a fine pass to Angel Di Maria who chipped the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma for Argentina’s second in first-half stoppage time. Paulo Dybala added the third goal in added time to seal a 3-0 victory for Lionel Scaloni’s charges.

Besides Lautaro’s 85 minutes on the pitch, Nicolo Barella played the full 90 minutes and Alessandro Bastoni came on for Emerson Palmieri on 77 minutes.
