Carlos Augusto: “We showed heart and a desire to win”

— just nowThe Nerazzurri wing-back's comments after he scored in the 1-3 win away to Bologna
Once again decisive, once again in the right place at the right time: Carlos Augusto has confirmed his importance to the Nerazzurri, scoring to make it 1-2 just seconds after coming on. It was a crucial goal in turning the game around against Bologna, and the third of his outstanding start to the season. He dominated down the left in the closing stages, capping his performance with a perfectly weighted assist for Bonny’s third goal. Just 21 minutes on the pitch were enough to make his mark on the game and earn him the MVP award.
Here is what he told Inter TV after the win over Bologna:
“Tactics are important, but without heart and a desire to win, they’re not enough. In the second half, we showed that we want to stay up at the top and defend the Scudetto we have on our shirts. We played well and came away with a win. When I come on, the coach asks me to put what we work on during the week into practice. I always put Inter’s objectives ahead of my personal ones. Everyone wants to play, but we have a squad full of quality players and a lot of games to come, so we all need to be ready to make a difference. We’ll be playing every three days, and everyone has to be ready. We’re working well during the week; now we need to do better in Europe and represent Inter in the best possible way. It hasn’t been an easy summer for me, but I’ve worked as hard as I could over the past few months to give my best and help the team. All I want is to help Inter win.”

Carlos Augusto made an outstanding impact, earning praise after the final whistle from Nicolò Barella. He was the Inter captain for the match at the Dall’Ara and also provided the assist for Thuram’s equaliser late in the first half.
Here is what the Nerazzurri midfielder had to say:
“I can only congratulate Carlos. People always talk about the coach’s decisions, but when you have players like this, who come on and make such an impact as he did today, it shows that everyone is focused on helping Inter win and defending the Scudetto. That’s how football is, and it happens to me too. Lauti is the captain, even when he’s not there. He’s been here for more years than I have, and I just want to help out. I think I’ve shown over the years how much this means to me, even without the armband. We know we need to improve. We struggled in the opening minutes today too, and we can make a better start. If we improve in that respect, we’ll become a really difficult team to face.”
