The former defender, symbol of the Grande Inter of the 1960s, turns 88 today

The fifth name in a formation so symbolic it became a poem to memorise: Aristide Guarneri was one of the symbols of the Grande Inter under Helenio Herrera, the team that dominated world football. Born in Cremona on March 7, 1938, Guarneri turns 88 today.

He joined Inter in 1958 and played nine seasons with the club, returning for one final campaign in 1969/70. An elegant and precise defender, a master at anticipating opponents, Aristide made 335 appearances and scored three goals for Inter, becoming a pillar of a legendary side that won three Scudetti, two European Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups.

Guarneri redefined the stopper role with discipline and leadership, wearing the number 5 and forming a formidable defensive unit alongside captain Armando Picchi.

On his 88th birthday, Aristide Guarneri receives the best wishes from Inter and all the Nerazzurri fans!
