Lautaro, a true captain. On overtaking Mazzola: "Only Inter matters"
Team
— Nov 30th 2025The Nerazzurri captain's words after the 2-0 away win against Pisa: the match was decided by the captain's brace.
Two huge goals, a decisive brace: Inter’s away win over Pisa bore the unmistakable stamp of Lautaro Martínez. One stunning strike to break the deadlock, another to put the game to bed. Il Toro lifted the team onto his shoulders, shattered the stalemate, and sprinted towards the travelling fans to celebrate with them. A captain's performance from Lautaro, who now leads the Serie A scoring tally with six goals, moving into double figures for the season with ten in all competitions, including four in the Champions League.
But above all, he has pulled clear of Sandro Mazzola in Inter’s all-time scoring rankings: Lautaro now sits on 163 goals, fourth place on the club’s historic list. Only Meazza, Altobelli and Boninsegna (171) remain ahead of him, with Mazzola – now fifth – on 161.
Here is what the Inter captain had to say after the match.
“I’m very happy because we secured all three points, which was our priority after two defeats. We did our job, and that’s what matters. I’m particularly pleased because the first half was tough; they pressed us well on the ball, but after the break we improved, and getting these three points was crucial. At half-time we spoke about adjusting a few things. After the goal the game opened up; before that they were closing every passing lane. I work for the team, for Inter, for myself and for my family. People on the outside can say what they like, but my job is simply to bring joy to the Inter fans. I still have many years left on my contract, I’m happy here, and I feel the affection of the supporters. The team always comes first. I just focus on working every single day. Sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don’t, but the important thing is to keep pushing Inter as high as possible. Now we need to recover our energy because we’ve got the Coppa Italia on Wednesday. It takes a lot out of you, but we’re recovering well and we have a couple of days now. Inter are expected to go far in every competition, so Wednesday is a big match for us in front of our fans.”
