A night of brilliant football and a prestigious milestone reached. Following his appearance at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Bastoni made his 250th appearance for Inter. He shared his thoughts after the match.
“It was a great match, we enjoyed it. They have incredible players, it's always good coming up against these sides. We played will and there were good chances for both sides, we will now look forward to the second leg. It's the 57th game of the season for me, a week like last week can happen, I'm obviously disappointed for us and the fans but we showed that Inter are here and will never give up. Yamal? He's an amazing player, one of the best wingers in the world, credit where credit is due. We can't wait for the second leg, we live and play for these matches. We will now think about the game against Verona. 250 appearances for Inter? I didn't know that, it's an honour: I hope to play many more. ”
Alessandro Bastoni
Bastoni made his Nerazzurri debut on 28 September 2019, when Inter beat Sampdoria 3-1 in Genoa on matchday six of the Serie A season. The young Alessandro, then 20 years old, wrote the first page of his Inter story: in his first season with the Nerazzurri, he made 33 appearances and scored two goals (against Lecce and Parma), playing 90 minutes in the Europa League final against Sevilla.
In the following years, Bastoni grew to become a key player for Inter: in 2020/21, he won his first Scudetto, in a season that saw him deliver some extraordinary performances. With the arrival of Simone Inzaghi at the helm, the number 95 further evolved his game: Alessandro demonstrated great skills in attack, in overlapping runs and long passes, while also constantly improving his defensive abilities. Bastoni and Inter continued to win together, adding two Coppa Italia titles, three Supercoppe Italiane and the Scudetto adding to the Second Star to their trophy cabinet, the latter sealed by his goal in the crucial February match away to Roma. On a personal level, Bastoni was included by UEFA in the Top XI of the 2022/23 Champions League, a competition in which Inter reached the final; he was also named best defender of the 2023/24 season by the Lega Serie A.
In his sixth season with the Nerazzurri, Alessandro is putting in solid performances, demonstrating great personality and versatility. This year, the defender has also been used as a wide midfielder with excellent results: Bastoni has made a total of 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal against Cagliari in the league and providing five assists. At European level, the Nerazzurri defender was named MVP of the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
