FIXTURE HISTORY

Inter and Cagliari have met 88 times in Serie A: the Nerazzurri have the better record with 45 wins to the Rossoblù's 14, and 29 total draws. Inter are unbeaten in 14 of their last 15 against Cagliari in the top division. Over the past few years, the Nerazzurri have built up a good streak in Sardinia, winning there in each of the last five seasons and keeping a clean sheet in our last 216 minutes of play against them. Furthermore, the Nerazzurri have found the back of the net away to Cagliari in each of our last ten visits, totalling 25 goals.

A CAPTAIN'S RECORD

Lautaro Martinez and Cagliari: the Nerazzurri captain has a great record against the Sardinians. The Rossoblù are his favourite side to play against in Serie A: 11 goals in just as many appearances. In our last game, played at San Siro last April, the Nerazzurri number 10 scored to make it 2-0 with a delightful touch.

BARELLA AND CAGLIARI

It is always special for Barella when he faces Cagliari. He played his first 100 Serie A games for them, scoring seven goals in that time. As a Nerazzurro, he has been involved in seven goals against the Rossoblù (one goal and six assists in eight appearances), his best record against any team in the competition.

DIMARCO AT HIS BEST

With goals and assists, Federico Dimarco remains one of the biggest attacking threats of Chivu's side. In the last five seasons, our number 32 is the defender with the most goal involvements in Serie A: 35 (16 goals and 19 assists). After an assist against Juventus and a goal against Sassuolo, the 1997-born full-back could get a goal involvement in three successive games for the second time in his Serie A career. The last time he managed it was August-September 2023.

THE OPPOSITION: CAGLIARI

It has been a great start to the season for Cagliari, under the leadership of new manager Fabio Pisacane. After four games, the Sardinians are seventh in the table on seven points from two wins and a draw. They have scored seven and conceded just three. In their first Serie A game, they draw 1-1 at home with Fiorentina. Then, Napoli beat them 1-0 at the Maradona before they went on to win two games: 2-0 against Parma and 2-1 away to Lecce. They have also had a positive start to the Coppa Italia despite struggling against Entella and only getting through on penalties. However, last week they secured their passage through to the next round with a dominant 4-1 win away to Frosinone. The difference-maker so far this season has been Fabio Pisacane who has taken over as manager after winning the Primavera Coppa Italia with Cagliari just a few months ago. The Rossoblù manager normally opts for a 4-3-2-1 with Caprile in goal, a backline of Palestra, Mina, Luperto and Obert, then Deiola, Prati and Adopo in midfield and the former Nerazzurro Sebastiano Esposito with Folorunsho supporting Belotti in attack.

“Giocare contro l’Inter in casa non sarà semplice, un atteggiamento più prudente deve essere alla base ma non sposta la preparazione della gara. Domani lo faremo con un assetto diverso rispetto alle altre gare. Noi vogliamo, quando la partita ce lo permetterà, creare problemi ai nerazzurri.”

Fabio Pisacane
