Carlos on a roll: “We weren’t afraid and wanted to win”
First Team
— 1 hour agoReaction from the Brazilian wing-back after scoring the winner against Shakhtar
In the right place at the right time once again. Always there, always believing. Determined to make a difference, help the team and give everything for Inter. Whether he’s making a crucial challenge, tracking back or scoring a Champions League winner, Carlos Augusto always answers the call. Ready, alert, eager to get forward and lightning quick. He darted in behind to meet an inspired pass from Mkhitaryan and break the deadlock in a game that was becoming increasingly difficult for Inter. A hugely important goal that secured the Nerazzurri’s first three points of their European campaign and added another highlight to his outstanding start to the season. He beat Riznyk with a delicate finish with the outside of his left foot, and the stadium erupted before the ball had even crossed the line. Carlos joined in with a roar of his own, sliding in front of the Curva before being mobbed by his teammates.
Here’s what the Brazilian wing-back had to say after the match against Shakhtar:
“It’s an important win against a good side who move the ball really well. Credit to everyone, we played a good game. The credit for the goal goes to Mkhi for his brilliant pass, and to Zielu for starting the counter-attack. I’m happy for the whole team. We’ve come away with a big victory that helps us move forward in the competition. We weren’t afraid. In the Champions League, you can’t control the game for the full 90 minutes. Shakhtar are a talented side with a lot of Brazilian players, but we stood firm at the end. The sending-off? I didn’t get a clear view of it. They seemed to be looking for that, but we won for Basto too. I’m happy for the team. We wanted this win.”
