THE OPPOSITION: OL LYONNES

OL Lyonnes are one of the most successful and prestigious clubs in European women's football. Founded in 2004, the French club have enjoyed a long history of success, winning 19 domestic league titles in 22 years. After claiming their first title in 2006/07, OL Lyonnes went on to win the Première Ligue every season except 2020/21, when Paris Saint-Germain came out on top. Their dominance in France has been matched by a remarkable record in Europe: the team won eight Champions League titles between 2011 and 2022, before losing the 2025/26 final to Barcelona.

The new season has started in impressive fashion. OL Lyonnes lead the French league with a perfect record, taking 18 points from their first six games to sit three points clear of second-placed PSG. In the Women's Champions League, the French side opened their campaign with a commanding 8-0 away win against Swiss team Servette, before being held to a goalless draw by Chelsea in Lyon in Matchday 2. OL Lyonnes have been coached by Jonatan Giráldez, the former Barcelona and Washington Spirit manager, since 2025.
