Coppa Italia Serie C: Inter U23 knocked out by Renate

Inter U23's Coppa Italia Serie C run comes to an end in the round of 16. Stefano Vecchi's men lose 3-2 to Renate at the U-Power Stadium in Monza. It was an intense, hard-fought game, in which the Nerazzurri led before being pegged back in the dying embers.

The guests took a sixth-minute through Anelli, who turned home from Melgrati's clearance. Inter U23 reacted well and built some rhythm. In the 31st minute, Spinaccè came close to an equaliser, but he was denied by Bartoccioni. The Nerazzurri kept pushing and got their reward on 36 minutes following a brilliant team move, as Kamate played it in to Lavelli, who set his first-time effort right into the top corner. Late in the half, Melgrati put his name up in lights with a sensational save to deny Ruiz Geraldo. After a minute of stoppage time, the two sides went in for half-time locked level at 1-1.

After the break, Inter U23 pushed hard, and David came close but sent his close-range effort wide of the target (55'). Two minutes earlier, Spinaccè had spurned a chance from a good position. The game hung in the balance, and in the 79th minute, the Nerazzurri completed the turnaround. Zuberek picked up the ball, drove into the penalty area, and fired home from a tight angle to make it 2-1. However, Renate stuck at it and regained the lead. In the 89th minute, Del Carro won a penalty, which was converted by Rossi - 2-2. Then, deep into injury time, Renate did the unthinkable: in the 93rd minute, the corner came in and dropped to the feet of Auriletto, who made it 3-2, finishing from just a few yards out.
