Three Nerazzurri involved in international football: Dumfries gets assist in Netherlands win, Switzerland beaten

Following the World Cup play-off semi-finals, the international action continued during the break. On Friday evening, three Nerazzurri were involved with their respective sides: Manuel Akanji for Switzerland, and Denzel Dumfries and Stefan De Vrij for the Netherlands.

SWITZERLAND 3-4 GERMANY

Switzerland and Germany played out a spectacular game in Basel. The two teams, who have both qualified for the World Cup already, faced off at St. Jakob Park. The Swiss took the lead twice in the first half thanks to goals by Ndoye and Embolo, but Germany pegged them back both times with goals by Tah and Gnabry. After the break, Wirtz gave the guests the lead, but Switzerland brought themselves level through Monteiro. Another goal for Wirtz then gave Germany the win. Manuel Akanji started and played 62 minutes before making way for Amenda.

NETHERLANDS 2-1 NORWAY

Denzel Dumfries and Stefan De Vrij's Netherlands won in their friendly against Norway in Amsterdam. The Oranje came from behind to overturn Schjelderup's opener. Goals by Van Dijk and Reijnders gave the Dutch the win. Both Dumfries and De Vrij got on the pitch: the full-back started and played the full 90, setting up Reijnders' winner, while the centre-back came on for Van Hecke in the 82nd minute.
