Inter vs. Fiorentina: complete match guide
First Team
— 1 hour agoThe Nerazzurri will play their eighth fixture of the Serie A season when they face Fiorentina at San Siro on Sunday 25 October at 12:30 CET
After their first Champions League win of the season, Inter turn their attention back to Serie A as they prepare to host Fiorentina on Matchday 8 at San Siro on Sunday 25 October at 12:30 CET. The Nerazzurri will be looking to maintain their impressive league form, having recorded six wins and a draw from their opening seven matches, with an excellent record at home. Vanoli’s Fiorentina arrive on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Como at the Franchi, while Chivu’s side won by the same scoreline away to Bologna in their last Serie A outing.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Sunday’s game will be the 177th Serie A meeting between Inter and Fiorentina. The Nerazzurri hold the upper hand with 74 wins to the Viola’s 46, alongside 56 draws. Inter have scored 275 goals in these meetings, compared with Fiorentina’s 224.
The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in 16 of their last 18 league meetings with the Tuscan side, recording ten wins and six draws. Their last six encounters have produced four wins, one draw and one defeat.
Fiorentina have lost their last three league visits to Inter, having remained unbeaten in three of the previous four, with one win and two draws. The Viola last suffered a longer run of consecutive away defeats to the Nerazzurri in Serie A between 2001 and 2013, when they lost twelve in a row.
Sunday’s game will also be only the second Serie A meeting between the sides in the 12:30 kick-off slot. The only previous occasion was on 22 April 2012, when they drew 0-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
INTER IN NUMBERS
Inter head into the Fiorentina clash level with Lazio at the top of the table. After seven matchdays, the Nerazzurri have Serie A’s most prolific attack, with 21 goals scored, an average of three per game, and nine conceded. Only five times in Serie A history has a side remained unbeaten through their opening eight matches having conceded more goals: Lucchese in 1936/37 (10), Roma in 1955/56 (10), AC Milan in 1992/93 and 1999/00 (11 on both occasions), and Inter in 2004/05 (13).
Cristian Chivu’s side are unbeaten in 17 Serie A matches, with eleven wins and six draws, their longest such run under the Romanian coach. Inter last enjoyed a longer unbeaten league streak between September 2023 and April 2024, when they went 28 games without defeat.
The Nerazzurri have won all four of their home league matches this season, scoring 15 goals. Over the past 50 years, only Roma, Juventus and Sampdoria have won each of their opening five home games in Serie A while scoring more: Roma in 1990/91 (16) and 2016/17 (17), Juventus in 2014/15 (17) and Sampdoria in 2017/18 (16). Inter’s ten points recovered from losing positions are also among the highest totals recorded after seven matchdays in the three-points-for-a-win era, matching Juventus in 2013/14 and Inter themselves in 2021/22. Character and a determination to win have helped the Nerazzurri respond to adversity and turn games around, finding goals in different ways and through a range of players. Chivu’s side are one of only two teams, alongside Lazio, to have had ten different goalscorers in Serie A this season.
Inter and Fiorentina are among the four teams with the most touches in the opposition penalty area this season, alongside Roma and Como. The Nerazzurri have registered 283, compared with the Viola’s 236. Inter have scored a goal from inside the box for every 15.7 touches there, the fourth-best rate in the division.
ÇALHANOĞLU IN NUMBERS
Hakan Çalhanoğlu has scored seven Serie A goals against Fiorentina, more than against any other opponent. Since the introduction of three points for a win, only four midfielders have scored more against a single opponent in the competition: Cristiano Doni against Inter, Andrea Pirlo against Parma and Clarence Seedorf against Juventus, all with eight, and Marek Hamšík against Palermo (eight) and Bologna (nine).
Çalhanoğlu also boasts one of the best scoring rates in Serie A this season. Among players who have scored more than once, the Turkish midfielder averages a goal every 69.7 minutes. Only Ange-Yoan Bonny (64.5), Donyell Malen (66.3) and Sandro Kulenovic (55.0) have a better minutes-per-goal ratio.
THURAM’S SCORING STREAK
Marcus Thuram is in a rich vein of scoring form, having found the net in each of his last six home Serie A appearances. In the three-points-for-a-win era, only two players have scored in at least seven consecutive home league appearances for Inter: Romelu Lukaku in 2021 and Christian Vieri in 2003, whose streak stretched to eleven games.
Among players with more than one Serie A goal this season, the Frenchman also ranks in the top four for minutes per goal. He averages a goal every 64.5 minutes, matching Ange-Yoan Bonny.
FIRST GOALS AGAINST FIORENTINA
Marcus Thuram scored his first Serie A goal for Inter against Fiorentina. The Frenchman met Dimarco’s cross with a fine header in the 4-0 win at San Siro on 3 September 2023, a game in which he also set up Lautaro in the second half.
Petar Sučić also opened his Serie A account for the Nerazzurri against the Viola. The Croatian midfielder scored in the 3-0 home win on 29 October 2025, producing a moment of magic with some sublime footwork.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s first Serie A goal for Inter also came against Fiorentina, in the 4-3 away win on 22 October 2022. He scored the winner in the final minute of stoppage time to cap a thrilling, dramatic encounter.
