Inter has been awarded with a prestigious international recognition: on Thursday, 4 June, President and CEO Giuseppe Marotta received a special honour presented by the Consular Corps of Milano and Lombardy.
The Consular Corps of Milano and Lombardy, alongside its counterpart in New York, is among the most prestigious and largest of its kind in the world. It is an organisation that closely examines institutions that promote values such as excellence, passion, unity, and regional identity through sport. As a result of these values, the Corps chose to award Inter for the Club's extraordinary season, featuring the victory of Inter's 21st Scudetto and their tenth Coppa Italia. These achievements hold major weight as they strengthen the international reputation of Milano, Lombardy, and Italy as a whole.
The ceremony took place in the presence of a delegation of 14 international consuls, led by Veronica Crego, President and Head of the Consular Corps and Consul General of Uruguay in Milano. The initiative held great historical and symbolic importance as this is the first time the Consular Corps of Milano and Lombardy has awarded this type of official recognition to a sports club and its leadership.

“It's an honour for me to welcome you here to our home on behalf of the Club, in front of all the trophies we have won over our 118-year history. Inter was founded on 9 March 1908 to create a club open to players from everywhere, giving athletes from all over the world the opportunity to represent FC Internazionale Milano. Our name "Internazionale" is there for a reason; it's a mark of our intent, a cultural and sporting manifesto. Throughout our history, players from 55 countries have worn the Nerazzurri shirt, enriching our club with their experiences and culture. Winning players from other nationalities do not take away from our Italian identity; they enhance it, demonstrating how Milano is an open, global city that is constantly looking to evolve. Therefore, welcoming you here today makes me even prouder; your presence further strengthens Inter's bond with the world. I would like to thank you on my behalf, on behalf of our ownership Oaktree, and on behalf of the entire Club, for this esteemed recognition, which highlights the extraordinary work done by coach Cristian Chivu and the players on the pitch, which has brought us two major trophies: the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia. This recognition will be another motivation for us to continue excelling in Italy and to aim even higher on both the European and global stage. ”
Giuseppe Marotta - Presidente e CEO
“It's a pleasure for us to be here at Inter HQ to congratulate Inter for their achievements this season, including winning their 21st Scudetto and their tenth Coppa Italia. Sports diplomacy is an important part of our work, because we all know that sports are a universal language, as can be seen by the group of Consuls General here today. For the first time in the history of the city's Diplomatic Corps, a recognition of this kind has been awarded to a sports club. The Diplomatic Corps of Milano is, alongside that of New York, the largest in the world, hosting almost 120 countries: all the world's cultures are represented in the city, and for this very reason, we have decided to grant this recognition. Inter's success represents much more than a sporting result: it's no coincidence that football can create what classical philosophy defines as a 'community of destiny', different people who recognise themselves as part of the same story, the same project, the same identity, and who feel a strong sense of belonging, exactly what happens with Inter. Having a sense of belonging goes beyond just the emotions; it's a mutual responsibility that comes from trust and cohesion, as demonstrated by the Club's achievements. With this award, we would like to extend our appreciation. While maintaining the discretion required in our daily work, it is our duty to be present in moments that strengthen the excellence and prestige of the community and the city of Milano. We wish Inter many successes to come: ambition is not arrogance, rather it is a constant drive to improve every day. ”
