Piotr Zielinski also plays for Poland


The first matches of the international break have now taken place.

In Asia, the third round of World Cup qualifying has begun, with Mehdi Taremi's Iran involved. The Inter attacker wore the captain's armband as his country faced Kyrgyzstan at home on Thursday afternoon. The match finished 1-0 thanks to a goal from Taremi, who handed the Iranians victory on matchday one in Group A. Mehdi played the full 90 minutes.

Iran's next match on the road to the 2026 World Cup will be away to the United Arab Emirates in Al Ain on Tuesday 10 September.

The 2024/25 UEFA Nations League also began on Thursday evening. Among the teams in action on matchday 1 were Piotr Zielinski's Poland, who beat Scotland with a goal on the stroke of full-time. Poland took a 2-0 lead at Hampden Park in Glasgow through Szymanski and Lewandowski. Goals from Gilmour and McTominay saw the bosts draw level but a 97th-minute Zaleski penalty restored Poland's lead.

Zielinski, schierato titolare dal CT Probierz, è rimasto in campo per 82'. Con questo successo la Polonia si porta in testa al Gruppo 1 della League A di Nations League a quota 3 punti, a pari merito con il Portogallo.
