The Women's Cup: Inter 5 - 2 Atlético Madrid

Inter Women beat Atlético Madrid 5-2 to book their place in the final of The Women's Cup, the prestigious international tournament being held in Italy for the first time. The match at the Arena Civica in Milano was never really in doubt, with the Nerazzurre already 3-1 up by half-time thanks to goals from Bugeja and Santi and a penalty from Vilhjalmsdottir, who scored her first in Inter colours. Atlético briefly pulled one back through Lloris before the break. In the second half, Detruyer added a fourth and Serturini made it 5-2 after Sarriegi had briefly reduced the deficit for the Spanish outfit.

It was an excellent start from the Nerazzurre, who dominated the first half and took the lead inside the opening quarter of an hour through Bugeja, who capitalised on a lapse in the Atlético defence. Just three minutes later, Inter doubled their advantage through Irene Santi, who powerfully fired home with her left foot. Atletico hit the bar through Fernàndez (24'), before Inter added a third from the penalty spot: after Serturini was fouled in the box, Vilhjalmsdottir stepped up to bag her first Nerazzurre goal. Bugeja then almost scored a fourth, while Runarsdottir thwarted Portales at the other end. However, the Inter goalkeeper couldn't do anything about Lloris' precise right-footed strike just before the break.

The second half began with Atlético pressing to reduce the deficit, but Sarriegi missed the target in the 49th minute. Just moments later, Detruyer bagged Inter's fourth from a Polli cross. With 54 minutes on the clock, Sarriegi found the far corner to make it 4–2. The Nerazzurre kept pushing and restored their three-goal advantage through Serturini, who finished off a counter-attack launched by Bugeja. No further goals were scored, and Inter will now face Juventus in the final on Sunday 17 August.
