Women, pre - season ends with victory over Newcastle

Inter Women closed out their pre-season in the best possible way with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle at St James’ Park. Detruyer opened the scoring in the 26th minute after a well-timed run into the box and finish from Bartoli’s cross. Inter dominated for most of the first half and came close to doubling their lead on several occasions. Newcastle responded after the break, but Rúnarsdóttir made two excellent saves to keep the Nerazzurre ahead. Inter continued to threaten, with Bugeja coming close in the 70th minute. Sassarini then made seven substitutions with 13 minutes remaining to hold onto the result and introduce fresh legs. Polli sealed the victory in the 85th minute, finishing calmly after being picked out by Glionna following Schough’s pass. The win gives Inter confidence ahead of their first Serie A Women’s Cup match against Parma on Friday 21 August at 20:30 CEST.
