The final night of UEFA Nations League action also brought the last fixtures for the Nerazzurri representing their European national teams during the first international break of the season. Two Inter players were in action on Tuesday evening: Manuel Akanji and Petar Sucic.
The defender played the full 90 minutes and wore the captain’s armband as Switzerland recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over North Macedonia. In Lucerne, the Swiss rounded off this Nations League window with victory thanks to goals from Rieder, Manzambi and Ndoye. It has been a perfect campaign so far for Akanji and Switzerland: after four Nations League matchdays, they have 12 points from four wins, scoring 11 goals and conceding just one. Switzerland lead Group 1 of League B, five points clear of Slovenia.
There was a different outcome for Petar Sucic’s Croatia, who suffered a 2-1 defeat to Spain at Stadion Poljud in Split. Croatia went into half-time ahead through Perisic, but a second-half brace from Merino turned the game around. Sucic started on the bench and played 24 minutes after replacing Luka Modric in the 66th minute. Josep Martinez was an unused substitute for Luis de la Fuente’s Spain. Croatia end this first round of Nations League fixtures with one win and three defeats. Sucic’s side sit third in Group 3 of League A, three points above Czechia and six behind second-placed England, with Spain top on 12 points.
