An important evening for Inter and for Matteo Darmian as the Nerazzurri defender started a match for the first time this season, and made his 300th appearance in Serie A at a stadium where he spent several years as a key player for the Granata.
At the end of the game, Darmian spoke in his post-match interview, summing up Inter's season so far:
“We're focused on what we need to bring to matches and during the week to end the season as best as possible. We were four points short before today, and we wanted to win; that didn't happen, but now we only need three points, and we'll try and secure them next week with our fans behind us for a major achievement like the Scudetto. Last season was positive, but it ended in the worst way. It wasn't easy mentally to get back to playing the way we have, but everyone did their part, especially the coach, who immediately gave us that boost that we needed. We did what was needed to get back to winning ways and once again proved that we're a strong group and a strong squad. I want to enjoy these final few matches and end the season as best we can. We also have the Coppa Italia final, and my future is the last thing I'm thinking about. I was injured for a while, but since I've been back, I've felt good and always tried to make myself available. I've always respected the coach's decisions. You can still be important even if you don't play every game, and I've always been ready to give my all to the team. This year, we've proved the group's strength, especially in terms of our mentality. It really wasn't easy after last season to get back on track, but we managed it as a group, highlighting that we're great players and good men with strong values, who bring that onto the pitch. I've been at Inter for six years now, so it's normal to have highs and lows, but we've always demonstrated that drive to step up and take responsibility. Dimarco? He deserves the assist record; he's had an incredible season. ”
