The thoughts of the Nerazzurri head coach following Inter's first-leg victory away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals

A top-level match where Inter displayed real character against one of the best sides in Europe. The Nerazzurri won away to Bayern Munich thanks to a fantastic performance, with Frattesi's goal providing confirmation of Inter's incredible focus until the very end.

A historic victory which puts an end to Bayern's 22-game unbeaten run on home soil in the Champions League. This is what Simone Inzaghi had to say after the game:

“Congratulations to the players. More than the result, I’d focus on the way we played. However, we know it’s only half-time in the tie and they are very strong. Nevertheless, we went toe to toe with Bayern, showing determination and courage. It’s a top-level result that makes us happy. Bayern’s numbers are incredible, so we’ve done something important. However, we need to build on this performance in front of our fans in seven days’ time. I expected more pressing from them, but they came up against an Inter side who played well. We scored two goals after building from the back and moving the ball well. We never stopped believing we could win despite conceding an equaliser. In the day and a half we had to prepare for the match, we talked a lot. We needed to keep them out of possession and play with character. We did well in the opening 45 minutes, before Bayern made a strong start to the second half. However, we stayed composed and focused, as our goal at the end proves.”

Simone Inzaghi
