Lautaro, words from the captain: "Here, everyone leaves everything on the pitch"

Il Toro is back, leading the Nerazzurri faithful once again. 46 days after the injury he suffered in Norway, Lautaro Martínez returned with an immediate impact. Just 60 seconds were enough to make it 1–0 against Roma and blow the roof off San Siro: trademark stuff from Lautaro. Then, he completed his brace in the second half: once again assisted by Marcus Thuram, this time to make it 3–1. Two hugely significant goals in the 5–2 victory over Roma, strikes that carried plenty of weight.
First and foremost, it was a crucial match for Inter in their league campaign: after 31 matchdays of this Serie A season, the Nerazzurri now sit on 72 points. Then there are the remarkable numbers produced by the Argentine striker: the league’s top scorer with 16 goals, and now Inter’s third-highest scorer of all time with 173 goals, clear of Roberto Boninsegna. It is also his fifth season in Nerazzurri colours with at least 15 league goals, and lifts him to the joint third-highest Argentine scorer in Serie A history with 131 goals (alongside Paulo Dybala, behind only Gabriel Batistuta and Hernán Crespo).
More extraordinary numbers, delivered on a night of real importance in front of a magnificent crowd.
“It was a big clash and a very important match for our league run, but also for the message we wanted to send to ourselves. We kept reminding ourselves of that beforehand — we had to approach the game with the right attitude and personality, because Roma are a strong side. They play man-to-man and make the game messy for you. We’re happy with how it went. Today, Thuram was back — actually, not just back: he made the difference, like he always does. Everyone can have a dip in form, it happens to all of us, to me. I’m happy for him and for all my teammates. When people talk about Bastoni and the rest of the team, it gives me goosebumps. Everyone leaves everything out there on the pitch. Today it might sound easy to say because we’re happy and we won, but even when they go away with the national teams they give absolutely everything. The Italian players didn’t go to the World Cup, but they work with their heads held high and give everything — they’re an example and you can see it. Every one of us gives our all, and everyone can go through a dip. We’ve spent so many years keeping Inter at the top and we can’t allow ourselves to stop. We accept criticism, but a dip can happen. We train every day to push ourselves further and give our best. I’m really proud to call them my teammates.”
