The post game words of the Nerazzurri captain after the Milano derby

First defeat of the season for Inter on Matchday 5. Simone Inzaghi's team falls at home against AC Milan, losing 2-1. After the match, the words of Lautaro Martinez and Matteo Darmian:

“I'm not satisfied tonight; we approached the game poorly and weren't ourselves. When you lower the pace and level, you don't win matches. We started the match badly, and it was difficult to recover, even though we were always in the game. Derbies are like that; they are won by the details. We need to regroup and work hard, starting with me. Now we must focus all our energy on the next match because we need to get back to winning. I take responsibility as captain; I know I'm not performing at the level I did last year, but I'll be the first to work hard at Appiano to improve. When things go wrong, we need to work twice as hard and support the team, as always.”

Lautaro Martinez

“We expected an AC Milan like this. They definitely played the game they wanted and executed their plan well. We weren't ourselves, we approached the match poorly, and our build-up play was not fluid. Losing a derby is never pleasant, but we must continue to work and look ahead. We didn't say anything specific to each other, we knew the importance of the match. We are a mature and experienced group, capable of understanding what went wrong today, and we will analyse the game to improve and continue the season in the best possible way. We did well to bring the match back to level terms, but we need to keep working, it's the only way I know that can help us improve in every aspect. For a defender, it’s never pleasant to concede goals. The first one caught us in the middle, and the second came from a set piece. That never happened last year, so we must keep working.”

Matteo Darmian
