A historic night, the latest in a memorable season. After the Scudetto, Inter also claim the Coppa Italia. A double, for a celebration unlike any other for the Nerazzurri faithful. At the Olimpico, an Interista apotheosis, with a 0-2 victory over Lazio. These are the words of Nerazzurri President and CEO Giuseppe Marotta.
“We are delighted with the double: in recent times a number of positive results have come our way. Sometimes you can lose, but reaching a final is always very difficult. This season was born from the remnants of the previous one, which had left its mark. Chivu did well and we climbed back up. Now these two trophies have arrived, though the regret over the Champions League remains, that one black mark on the season. The first thanks go to the ownership, who have given us great freedom. There's a team that takes to the pitch and then there is one off it that I would like to thank, from Zanetti to Ausilio and Baccin. And then a thought goes to all the supporters who are extraordinary. Football is a team game, every component has made its contribution to reach these pleasing results. Our DNA is to always play to win. I am very optimistic about the future, while remaining respectful towards our opponents. We continue along this evolutionary path, not a revolutionary one. Sucić was among the best today, we will continue with this policy of finding talented or important young players to mix with experienced ones. With only young players you cannot win, you need experienced players who have won before. We will soon begin to delve into things, always after a discussion with the club which sets out the guidelines. There is no need to change too much, there are some free agents, but age creates destiny. The greatest respect for those who will no longer be with us, it is part of life. There will be no revolution. There will be a gradual introduction of young players.”
