The French defender’s thoughts after making his first Inter appearance in over a year, alongside Josep Martínez’s comments after the win at the Unipol Domus

370 days on: Benjamin Pavard’s last appearance for Inter was on 25 August 2025, when the Nerazzurri beat Torino on the opening matchday of last season. More than a year on, the Frenchman was back in the Nerazzurri shirt, bringing his usual elegance and authority to the squad as he played a crucial role in Inter’s win away against Cagliari and helped secure a hard-fought clean sheet.

After the match, Pavard reflected on the victory alongside Josep Martínez, who made several decisive saves:

“We played well, created a lot and got the win. It was important to win here and keep a clean sheet because that isn’t easy. We came under a bit of pressure in the second half, but we knew they would push hard. We did well to stand firm during the difficult spells, and well done to my brother Calha! I’ll play wherever the coach wants me. I played at wing-back in the closing stages, but the victory is all that matters. Now we need to prepare well for our next match, and we’ll do everything we can to win in front of our supporters. I’m very happy and fortunate to be back here with this group. Last year is in the past; I’ve returned to win every game and as many trophies as possible.”

Benjamin Pavard

“Being Inter’s goalkeeper means being ready when called upon, even after a first half in which you haven’t had a save to make. I have to thank Bisseck for his intervention because it was important. We did a great job, but we need to put games to bed earlier and manage possession better in the closing stages. They pushed really hard and we took a few risks in the final minutes. These points are hugely important. They are the ones you remember at the end of the season because they can make a real difference. I have complete confidence in everyone. That is down to the team’s excellent work, and we have six outstanding defenders. They are all very strong and perform well whenever they are called upon. I feel good. I always try to give my best and learn from every match, but the team comes first. We won’t think about Real Madrid until Sunday. Saturday’s game is important, so we need to focus on Napoli before turning our attention to the Champions League.”

Josep Martinez
