Three years ago, it was against Fiorentina at San Siro that Marcus Thuram scored his first goal for Inter, sparking a special bond between Tikus and the Nerazzurri faithful. A lot has changed since then, but some things remain the same: unwavering belief and the determination to make the seemingly impossible happen. That's exactly what Thuram showed against Fiorentina. The Frenchman ran tirelessly, chased every ball for 100 minutes and refused to give up, even when the game looked lost. His goal in the 91st minute, extending his scoring streak at San Siro to seven consecutive games, brought Inter level. Just three minutes later, Tikus won the decisive penalty, which Zielinski converted to complete the comeback.
Thuram shared his thoughts and feelings in his post-match interviews:
“We have the confidence of a team that knows games can still be won right at the death. We know we can win any game. I celebrated like Lautaro because lately he's been the one scoring in the 90th minute. The penalty? Defenders can make mistakes. I just have to keep taking them on in the box and trying to force an error. That's how you can win penalties. Tomorrow's Ballon d'Or? I'd love to see a French player win it”
