Some evenings bring out the very best of Milano. As the late-summer heat begins to ease and daylight fades, the sun drops behind San Siro, filling the sky with shifting shades of pink, orange and purple. It was against that backdrop on this early-September Saturday that Inter produced a remarkable comeback on the Meazza pitch, in one of those games that are almost impossible to explain and can only truly be lived. Marcus Thuram was part of that emotion too, returning to action at San Siro for the first time this season. The French forward marked the occasion by heading Inter level at 2-2, before Lautaro completed the comeback with the decisive goal.
“He always tells me I’m crazy for going up there, but today he followed me,” Lautaro said to Tikus about his celebration on the barrier. Thuram could only respond one way:
“Today was amazing – I had to follow him! Lautaro is our captain and our leader. He came back from a very long World Cup and immediately made himself available to the team. He’s getting back to full fitness and tonight he gave us the win. Was I eager to make an impact again? Yes, but first and foremost I wanted to help the team. We have a lot of games coming one after another and we’re always trying to improve. We take it one game at a time. The league is tough, and we’ll keep doing the best we can”
