It takes nerves of steel to step up and score a winning penalty in the 98th minute, especially in front of your own fans, after a game where nothing seemed to be going your way and with David De Gea in outstanding form. But Piotr Zielinski made it look effortless, stepping up to fire the decisive spot-kick against Fiorentina into the top corner, leaving the Spanish goalkeeper with no chance.
The Nerazzurri midfielder was typically understated as he reflected on the moment in his post-match interviews:
“There was definitely a lot of pressure, but I felt calm and confident I could score. We won and we're happy, so we just need to keep it going. There will always be criticism, but we don't pay attention to it. We just focus on giving our best every time. Apart from the result against Bruges, our results have been excellent. We're not bothered by the criticism”
