A tightly contested first leg ended goalless at the Sinigaglia, with Como and Inter unable to be separated. The stalemate means the Coppa Italia semi-final will be settled in the return leg at San Siro at the end of April, with a place in the final in Rome at stake.
After the final whistle, Matteo Darmian, Luis Henrique and Carlos Augusto gave their thoughts in the post-match interviews:
“We knew all about Como’s qualities. We know how well they keep the ball and how effectively they can play their way out of pressure. We did well and approached the game with the right attitude. We wanted to come away with a win, but now we look ahead because we’ve got a very important match on Sunday, and then we’ll think about the return leg. We knew what we had to do. Keeping a clean sheet today was important and we always try to give our best, both defensively and going forward. Not conceding is a big positive with the second leg in mind. We showed them respect, fully aware it was a 180-minute tie and it was important not to lose and to come away with a positive result. That said, when you play for Inter, you always step onto the pitch aiming to win”
Matteo Darmian
“It was important not to lose today. The return fixture will be at home, and we know how strong we are at San Siro. The derby? We can win it. We’ll go into it with real strength and conviction, and we’ll do everything we can to come away with three points”
Luis Henrique
“Did we miss Lautaro? Lautaro is our captain and he’s hugely important for us, but all our forwards have quality and always try to do everything they can to help the team win. It ended in a draw today, but we know we’ve got the second leg at home to play for a place in the final. The derby is important for both sides, but I don’t like talking about our opponents. We’re focused on ourselves and just need to concentrate on delivering our best performance. Then we’ll see what happens.”
