— Apr 16th 2025The thoughts of Yann Sommer, Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram after Inter's qualification for the Champions League semi-finals
A seemingly endless match where all of Inter's character shone through, with the Nerazzurri hitting back after falling behind and holding firm in the face of Bayern's late pressure. It was a brilliant team display, one which allowed Inter to progress to the Champions League for the tenth time in history.
It was a victory that delighted the entire Nerazzurri faithful and the Inter players, with Yann Sommer, Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan sharing their thoughts after Inter vs. Bayern Munich:
“I’m very tired but also very happy. We played a great match against a tough and very strong team. In the second half, we defended together as a team. Their pressing was intense in Munich, too, but we kept our shape well - that’s how you win games. Our objective is to try to compete for everything, but just being here is already a great achievement. We have a chance in every competition. I’m happy for the fans at home and here; the energy in the stadium was incredible tonight.”
Yann Sommer
“There’s certainly a lot of pride. We were ready today, aware it would be a difficult match. We quickly got back into the game after going 1-0 down, scoring two crucial goals. We defended very well, and after making it 2-1, we stayed compact. In the end, we were a bit tired: it’s not easy playing so many matches, and the legs need energy. We had to dig deep, but we’re happy. Staying in the game and always believing was key. We always posed a threat, and when you play so much, you have to raise the level when needed.”
Hakan Calhanoglu
“I’m absolutely thrilled. We worked together as a real team against a great side. It was tough to play against Bayern, but we’ve made it through. Lautaro? He played a great match as captain, like he always does. We showed a lot of determination.”
Marcus Thuram
“This is one of the best nights I’ve experienced with Inter. We’re happy to have made it through, and we deserved it. We had to dig deep, and we showed a real sacrificial spirit. We’re proud and don’t want to stop here; we can still do more. There isn’t some sort of secret; our spirit is there for everyone to see on the pitch. After conceding the opening goal, we responded by scoring twice. I know the quality my teammates possess, and I’m not interested in what people on the outside say. I know what I’m talking about and am fully aware of this team’s qualities.”
