Inzaghi: "We didn't do enough"

— Dec 10th 2024The thoughts of the Nerazzurri head coach after the UEFA Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen
The Nerazzurri suffered their first defeat of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League, with Bayer Leverkusen running out 1-0 winners on home soil thanks to Mukiele's finish in the 90th minute. It's the first goal that Inter have conceded in the competition this season after five consecutive clean sheets. Coach Simone Inzaghi had the following to say after the game:
“It wasn’t one of our best performances. We were up against a very good team. In the first 15 minutes, they hit the bar, but then we controlled the game and should have been more daring. We lacked quality in the final third. It’s disappointing to lose the match in this manner, but it doesn’t damage what we’ve done so far. We didn’t do enough and needed to create more. In the first half, we had the feeling they were struggling when we had the ball. Their goal was a chaotic one and we should have shown more focus, but that’s the Champions League for you. We’ll probably still be in the top eight by the end of tomorrow, and then it depends on us in our last two matches. We need to keep on moving forward with our heads held high. Now, we have other matches to finish off the year.”
