Three points to start the year: the thoughts of the head coach after Inter's 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona

It wasn't for the faint-hearted, but Inter have their first win of 2024: the Nerazzurri beat Verona 2-1 at San Siro thanks to goals from Lautaro and Frattesi. These three points mean that Inter will finish the first half of the campaign in first place on 48 points. For the 18th time in history, the Nerazzurri are the "winter champions".

After the game at San Siro, Simone Inzaghi had the following to say to Inter TV:

“The lads showed real heart. Certainly, we’ve done better in other matches. We didn’t do too badly in possession despite a few problems with the pitch, a factor that affected us as much as it did Verona, who possess a lot of quality. We needed to do better off the ball: there were situations where we became stretched. We dug in, and we’ll have to also do so in the next 19 matches. Nothing can be taken for granted in this league, and we’re only at the halfway point. There are many difficult matches to come. We know that we’ve been excellent so far, but the next half of the season will be even tougher. At the moment, we’re getting a lot of players back fit, meaning I’ll have options to choose from. We hope to play as many games as possible, as has been the case in the last few years.”
