Lautaro 150: "Inter possess heart, intelligence and character"
Team
— Apr 16th 2025The thoughts of the Nerazzurri captain, who scored his 150th Inter goal and was named MVP
Striker, symbol, captain: Lautaro Martínez produced a magnificent performance against Bayern Munich at San Siro. El Toro defended every ball that came his way, displayed moments of great class and fought against every opponent who tried to stop him. It was an enormous, extraordinary and complete display, capped off by his 150th goal for Inter and another memorable celebration with the fans. For his performance, the Nerazzurri captain was named the match MVP by UEFA, and this is what he had to say after the match:
“It was definitely a match we’ll remember for a long time: Inter have got serious heart. There’s so much work and sacrifice behind this result. Our schedule is a packed one, but Inter never give up – this team possesses heart, intelligence and character. We had to dig deep at times today, but we showed once again that we’re here to do great things. We always play to win everything; otherwise, there’s no point in playing this sport. I want to thank my teammates, the staff and our fans, who, like always, pushed us all the way. The match against Barcelona will be something special. They have a great history in this competition, but we’ll now focus on the league. My 150th goal? Every goal is important to me - it’s my job. But today’s goal has a special meaning, especially because it helped us go through and got us back on track after going behind.”
Lautaro Martinez
From his first goal on 29 September 2018 - against Cagliari - to his vital finish against Bayern Munich at San Siro that paved the way to the Champions League semi-finals, Lautaro Martínez’s journey has been an emotional one, built on passion, determination and constant milestones.
The Nerazzurri captain's goal against Bayern was his 150th for Inter in all competitions, a tally he's managed to reach in 325 appearances. An extraordinary personal achievement that cements his place among the greats in the Club’s history.
Lautaro is now the sixth player in Inter’s history to score at least 150 goals, and he sits sixth in the Club’s all-time goalscoring charts. Over the course of this season, he has surpassed two legends - István Nyers and Benito Lorenzi - and he now has his sights set on the next name on the list: Luigi Cevenini III, who is fifth with 158 goals.
In the Champions League, the Argentinian has rewritten the record books: with 20 goals, he is Inter’s all-time top scorer in Europe’s premier competition, surpassing a club icon in the form of Sandro Mazzola, who scored 17 goals in the European Cup.
The Inter captain continues to write his story, and an extraordinary one at that.
