Argentina’s second friendly of the international break, and Lautaro Martínez’s second goal. Scaloni’s side took on Burkina Faso at the Monumental and secured another emphatic victory, with the 7-0 scoreline opened by the Toro himself after just four minutes. Lautaro stepped up to take the penalty won by Giay after a foul by Diallo. Goalkeeper Guira saved the spot-kick, but he could do nothing about the rebound, as the Nerazzurri captain fired home with his left foot to put Argentina ahead.
It was Lautaro’s fourth consecutive game on target for the Selección, a goal that sees him move into sole third place in the list of Argentina’s all-time leading scorers. Lautaro now has 42 goals in 86 appearances, one more than Sergio Agüero. Only Batistuta (55) and Messi (125) remain ahead of him.
Lautaro played 45 minutes before making way for Palacios, with the first half ending 5-0 thanks to goals from Prestianni, Nico Paz and Julián Álvarez, following Diallo’s own goal. Mastantuono and Giuliano Simeone completed the scoring after the break. Argentina will return to action on the night of 6–7 October against Benin, in what will be Lionel Messi’s final appearance in the Albiceleste shirt.
