A hugely important win for Inter, who move up to 78 points with five matches left to go. The win was secured in the second half thanks to goals from Thuram, Barella and Zieliński. As always, the contribution of the defence was crucial: a very important clean-sheet, also ensured by Josep Martinez, who returned as a starter in the league. It was his third Serie A appearance this season after those against Sassuolo and Cagliari in the reverse fixture. Alongside him, another excellent performance from Stefan de Vrij, a consistent and reliable presence. The goalkeeper and defender both spoke at the end of the match:
“The match was obviously a very important one and we got the job done, but it's not over and we have to keep winning, despite the big advantage. We've changed gear in the second half of games recently: Chivu is really good at understanding what needs to be improved. For example, we needed to raise the tempo today and change some positions, we were quicker when it came to finding the spaces and causing them problems, and then when we broke the deadlock, they opened up and we dictated the play better. We had a great season last season but didn't win anything: we realised we needed to do even more, and now we have the chance to win two trophies, we'll give our all for this. I think every player knows what it means to play for Inter, everyone has this winning mentality: that is always the objective, but then there are always defeats. We also pick ourselves back up, it's a question of mentality and character. My future? Before anything, I'm trying to give my all, my contract is running out but nothing has been decided yet. There's still time to decide. ”
