Stats and numbers ahead of the Milan derby on matchday 5 in Serie A


PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS

The match on Saturday 3 September will be the 233rd derby between Inter and Milan in all competitions. In Serie A, the two teams have met 176 times, with the Rossoneri the designated home side for 88 of these games. Looking at the overall top-flight record, the Nerazzurri have recorded 67 victories compared to Milan’s 53. With the Rossoneri on home turf, Inter, with 34 wins to their name, have emerged victorious on eight more occasions than their cross-city rivals. The Nerazzurri have also scored more goals: 248 compared to 226.

KLINSMANN AND THE DERBY

During his spell with Inter between 1989 and 1992, Jurgen Klinsmann was involved in six Milan derbies. The former German striker found the net in a 1-1 draw against the Rossoneri during the 1991/92 campaign. The goal and game were both unforgettable, as he himself recalled.

SCORING STREAK

The last time Inter failed to find the net against Milan in Serie A was when the teams played out a 0-0 stalemate in April 2018. Since then, the Nerazzurri have scored in eight consecutive derbies. It’s their best goalscoring run against the Rossoneri in the Italian top flight since 2001.

INTER ON THE ATTACK

Inter are the team that have had the most shots on target this campaign: 31. The Nerazzurri have averaged almost eight efforts at goal per match so far. Furthermore, six different players have already got on the scoresheet. The latest player to join this list is Barella, who found the net against Cremonese.

EL TUCU AND MILAN

Milan are the side Joaquín Correa has had the most goalscoring success against in Serie A: the Argentine has found the net four times against the Rossoneri. In general, El Tucu has bagged four times in his last five league appearances.

REFEREE

The referee for Milan vs. Inter will be Daniele Chiffi.

Chiffi will be assisted by Meli and Peretti on matchday five of the 2022/23 season, while Marcenaro will perform the role of fourth official. Di Paolo, assisted by Paganessi, will oversee VAR.
