Akanji’s Switzerland made it two wins from two. After beating North Macedonia, they followed up with a 3-0 victory over Scotland in Glasgow. Ricardo Rodríguez, Nico Elvedi and Zeki Amdouni scored at Hampden Park, where the hosts were reduced to ten men following Hendry’s dismissal in the eleventh minute. Petar Sučić’s Croatia, meanwhile, suffered a 4-1 defeat to Spain at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in Seville. The Inter midfielder started for Bilić’s side and played 81 minutes before being replaced by Luka Modrić. Yamal scored twice, with Pubill and Nico Williams also on target for Spain, while Beljo had briefly drawn Croatia level at 1-1. Spain top the group with a perfect record, while Croatia and England have three points and Czechia remain bottom without a point.
Ange-Yoan Bonny was an unused substitute as Côte d'Ivoire won 2-0 away to Somalia through late goals from Gboho (89’) and Touré (90+5’). The result took the Ivorians to six points from two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, level with Gambia at the top of the group.
