Among the players who have worked throughout the Nerazzurri's summer preparations, one continues to stand out for his maturity and experience despite being just 21: Pio Esposito. He delivered a performance well beyond his years against Monza, proving a constant threat and playing a key role in unlocking the Brianzoli defence on a night that could have been tricky for Inter. He brought others into play, battled in the duels, picked out his teammates with clever touches and capped it all off with a superb backheel finish to put the game beyond doubt. Pio fought for every ball for the full 90 minutes, showing plenty of determination and energy, winning six of the nine duels he contested. Esposito was back to showing his strength, in every sense of the word; just ask the Nerazzurri fans in San Siro's green section.
After the game, the young Nerazzurri striker spoke to the media:
“The ripped shirt? I always try to show what I can do and put in the hard work for my teammates, so I’m twice as happy to have got on the scoresheet today as well. My only goal is to keep improving every day, not just when it comes to the stats, but by taking things one step at a time and continuing to develop as a player. This is exactly the start we wanted.
