The words of the Nerazzurri striker, who scored against Fiorentina at the Franchi

It's another goal for Pio Esposito, who opened the scoring after just 40 seconds against Fiorentina at the Franchi. The striker was denied a brace by a superb save from De Gea in stoppage time. The 2005-born forward now moves up to six league goals after tonight's.

Here is what Esposito had to say after the game:

“Fiorentina played a great game tonight, the result was fair. I don’t see myself as a leader; every time I step on the pitch I give everything for the team and the group, trying to do my best. We started very strongly with the right approach and the desire to win, but they were good and gained a lot of ground. Right after the match, I was disappointed about the last chance. De Gea did well to come out and anticipate it, maybe I could have done better. I hope the goal that didn’t happen today will come with the national team on Thursday. Players like Barella know their teammates’ characteristics well. Heading and attacking the box is my strength, and he was able to provide that assist straight away. I’m joining the national team with a strong desire to achieve an important goal. To the national team fans, I’d say: come together for the good of the team. Italy play on Thursday, and that’s what matters most, regardless of club rivalries.”

Pio Esposito

“What was missing? That's a good question. We need to watch the game back to understand where we can improve. It's understandable that we're a bit disappointed, but were six points clear. We need to up our game a bit, we know our strength. I think we are having a great season. It’s not easy mentally, but we have to be at our best for the final stretch of the season.”
