— Nov 1st 2022The thoughts of Gosens, De Vrij, Onana, Darmian and Asllani after the match at the Allianz Arena
This evening, Bayern ran out 2-0 winners at the Allianz Arena, with the Nerazzurri finishing Group C in second place with ten points. Following tonight's match, several Nerazzurri players were clearly satisfied with the team's successful qualification for the Champions League round of 16.
“We played well and had some great opportunities in the first half in particular. Obviously, if you don’t take your chances against a team like Bayern, you’re often punished. They’re a very strong side and scored with a wonder strike in the second half, but I saw a good Inter team that can compete with these sides. We have the right spirit and attack and defend as a unit. Where can possible improvements be made? The perfect performance doesn’t exist, and we need to remain united because we have three very important games coming up before the World Cup. Nine points are required to stay in touch with the top sides in the league. A big display will be needed in Turin, but we’re ready.”
Robin Gosens
“Our objective was to qualify for the round of 16, and we managed to achieve this with a match to spare. Nevertheless, we came here with the aim of playing really well. We knew that it’d be tough because Bayern are a great team. We gave everything, but it wasn’t enough. In any case, you could see how we’ve made strides forward since the reverse fixture. The secret to qualifying? We had a big discussion, and there’s been a different spirit and attitude since then. We’ve grown and can still improve. Juventus vs. Inter? It’s a very important game, and we want to win it.”
Stefan De Vrij
“Inter are a great team, among the best in the world in fact. There’s no difference between us and them; we’re a very strong side and possess real quality. We’re used to playing a lot and train so we can give our best. I’m sure that we’ll be ready on Sunday, too.”
André Onana
“I think we interpreted the match well from the get-go. We played well but certain incidents punished us. They scored from a set play in the opening period and then put the game to bed with a nice goal in the second half. However, the fact remains that we produced an excellent performance and have deservedly qualified for the round of 16. We created several chances to score. We wanted to put on a good display today, and we did just that. We’ve improved since we faced Bayern in the reverse fixture, and this is clear in all respects. We’re now more of a team, and it shows on the pitch. ”
Matteo Darmian
“We’ve done really well to make it to the last 16. Today, we wanted to finish the group stage with a win, but we knew we’d be up against a strong side. We came here and played our game, but we weren’t able to score the goal that would have changed the match. Nevertheless, we’re pleased. We showed that we’re a great group in all our matches, especially in the game in Barcelona. From tomorrow, we’ll look ahead to the match against Juventus because we know that we can’t afford to drop more points in the league.”
