— 8 hours agothe Nerazzurri goalkeeper's comments to Inter TV after the league derby
Inter were defeated in the derby, reducing their lead in the rankings. Now Milan are just seven points behind after 28 games. Inter dominated for much of the game, creating two key chances, and the match also saw a dramatic end with plenty of emotion.
Yann Sommer shared his thoughts in his post-match interview with Inter TV.
“Today we had two or three really strong chances, but in the end we lost the derby, and that's painful to come to terms with. We did have the opportunities to equalise and make it 1-1, but today we just couldn't manage it. Losing a derby is difficult, but now it's vital we stay composed. Our next game is at home against Atalanta on Saturday: we need to prepare well and play the way we know we can. We're seven points clear, but right now we just need to keep our focus on the next match, keep our heads up, and take it one game at a time. It's clear that it's difficult for a team when there are lots of key players unavailable, but that's beyond our control. We have a big squad, and everyone is very skilled, so that's not the reason we lost today. Now we turn our attention to what's coming up next: we'll review this game in detail over the next few days, and then we'll calmly focus on our next game. ”
Yann Sommer
“I think Milan played as we expected them to: they pressed us, especially in the first half, and forced us into making mistakes in our build-up, even creating a few chances. We didn't defend well on a couple of occasions, and I think that played a part in today's defeat. The two derbies were very different. In the first one, we created lots of opportunities but didn't win. Today, we just weren't clinical enough; we made too many mistakes and sometimes didn't have the right kind of aggression in duels. As a team, we tried to make the most of set-pieces, specifically crosses. We just didn't create enough opportunities, but we did have some good ones, even if they weren't enough to find that equaliser. The next few days won't be easy, but we're still top of the table, seven points ahead, and our next game is against Atalanta. We have time to resolve things and improve our performance in areas that didn't work today.”
