Sommer is Superman: "That save to deny Yamal..."

— May 6th 2025A brilliant performance from the Swiss shot-stopper, who made some memorable saves in the 4-3 victory over Barcelona
In the history of football and this competition, there must be something that demands the clashes between Inter and Barcelona be remembered as truly epic showdowns. In 2010, it was the heroic defensive display with ten men at Camp Nou that allowed Inter to qualify for the Champions League final. This time, it was a thrilling 4-3 victory at San Siro. Both then and now, the man between the Inter sticks left an immortal mark. Just as Julio Cesar’s save against Leo Messi became one of the most iconic, beautiful and decisive moments in Inter's history, Yann Sommer crafted his own masterpiece, or rather, more than one.
It was an unbelievable performance from the Swiss goalkeeper, one of a true champion. The first, mind-blowing, stop saw him thwart Eric Garcia: the goal was at the Barcelona player’s mercy and the visitors were already celebrating, but then came those cat-like reflexes. There were plenty of other saves too, most notably in the ninth minute of extra time. Not Messi, but Yamal: another left-footed strike that was seemingly impossible to save. Yet, Yann did save it. A decisive, historic stop.
The MVP award at the end of the match is the least he deserved for such a monstrous and unforgettable performance.
“I’m very happy. It was an amazing match, and the team have gone on an extraordinary journey. The toughest save was the last one, because Yamal is really strong and always comes inside to shoot. We studied his way of taking quick shots even after the first leg. We fought, we defended with strength, and it was fantastic to save that shot. It gave us great confidence for the final minutes. I can only say that we always believe until the very last second of play. I couldn't be happier. We work for these moments, for these matches. I'm here with this wonderful team, and we’re in the Champions League final. It's amazing.”
