— Nov 14th 2025Inter's No.1 is among the eight nominees for The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper 2025
A standout season for Yann Sommer, who has been named by FIFA among the eight best goalkeepers of 2025. Outstanding performances across all competitions convinced the Federation to include him on the shortlist, a decision which they explained with the following:
“His heroics on the European stage won’t be forgotten anytime soon, having kept seven clean sheets during Inter’s incredible run to the Champions League final. He also delivered at his very best in the decisive group-stage match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup against Argentine giants River Plate.”
Sommer made 52 appearances last season, keeping 22 clean sheets. These numbers only hint at the true impact he had on Inter’s 2024/25 season, a campaign defined by exceptional displays such as his Champions League semi-final performance against Barcelona at San Siro, which earned him MVP on the night.
In September, he also reached a prestigious personal milestone: third place in the Yashin Trophy, the award created by France Football to honour the best goalkeeper of the year, presented during the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
The other nominees are:
Alisson Becker (Liverpool)
Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid)
Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG/Manchester City)
Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)
Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)
David Raya (Arsenal)
Wojciech Szczesny (Barcelona)
