After Simone Inzaghi's comments, Matteo Darmian and Marcus Thuram also spoke to the press during the UEFA Media Open Day ahead of the Champions League final between PSG and Inter.
This is what the Nerazzurri attacker had to say to the journalists in attendance at the BPER Training Centre:
What does this final mean to you on a personal level? "It’s a special match and one which means a lot to me. I’m playing against the team from the city where I grew up and against players I know very well."
After the match in Como, you looked upset: will you carry that frustration into the final? Maybe now it's your turn to show your dad what needs to be done to win a major trophy? "After Como, I was sad because we lost a league title that we could have won. Hopefully this time, I’ll be the one explaining something to him."
Inzaghi said Lautaro will play. Can you tell us about your relationship with him? "Playing with him is easy - he’s our leader and has helped me a lot. I feel privileged to play alongside him. We’re a very solid group and enjoy playing together."
This has been your best season, but you've also had to deal with several physical issues. Have they affected your performance levels? "My performance levels haven't been great in the second half of the season, but the important thing is that Inter are in the final and we have the chance to fight for the trophy."
Three years ago, you experienced the build-up to the 2022 World Cup final with France. Now, you're preparing for a Champions League final - what's the difference? "The World Cup is over quickly, whereas this journey has been longer and tougher. Now, we want to make the final step count."
To prepare for a match like this, do you need to forget everything that came before, or should what you've been through fuel you? "You need a mix of both. I've learnt a lot this season, and there’s no point thinking about the league now. We need to go into the final with a clear mind, remembering everything we've done to help each other, and use that during the match."
What’s your relationship like with Arnautović? "He’s a leader in the changing room - he helps everyone. He’s also made a big contribution on the pitch and scored a lot of goals. To me, he’s like a brother - he’s been a key figure in my development."
Is it a surprise to see PSG in the final? "It's not a surprise. They have a great coach with a strong footballing philosophy."
What do you think of Donnarumma? Have you asked your teammates for any tips about his weaknesses? "I haven't asked for advice yet, but maybe I will. He's a very strong goalkeeper and doing great things with PSG. No doubt, he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world."
Your father played in many finals, and so have you. Has he been giving you any advice? "He's a supportive father and always gives me advice, not just for finals."
What have your teammates told you about the 2023 final against Manchester City? "It’s not about revenge. We’re not playing against Manchester City - this is a new challenge. We have to approach it the way a final should be approached, without putting too much pressure on ourselves and without thinking about Istanbul."
