Inter Women beat Roma 3-0 in the seventh game of the Championship Round and they qualify for the Champions League with three still to play

It has been a historic, unforgettable day. The sort of day that sticks with you. For the performance, for the opposition and for the result. Inter Women beat Roma with a dominant 3-0 win. And they managed it at home, in front of our faithful support. This is a phrase that has been a long time coming: the Champions League is secured with three games to go. It is not simply an achievement, but a statement of growth, of a team, of a great team that have achieved something truly remarkable.

It is not just any old match. And you could see this straight away since it took them sixty seconds to get their first chance with a right-footed shot from the left of the area which came off the post. The Nerazzurre then responded in the 4th minute through Csiszar who hit the post from Serturini's corner. It then took Inter only two minutes to have another change, but this one changed everything: it was the sixth minute and Csiszar's header has just hit the bar, but Elisa Poli was there on the rebound, right on the line. 1-0. A hugely important goal. Inter then pushed on. Schough had an effort in the 21st minute but she found the keeper's gloves. In the 30th minute, Merlo picked out Magull but her diving header just went wide. Then, Csiszar had another chance, winning the ball and launching a counter-attack: it was a golden chance for Wullaert, but she was denied by Ceasar. Before the break, Pilgrim also had a left-footed effort, grazing the woodwork. After the break, the pressure continued. In the 50th minute, Andres burst through the Romaniste and she perfectly timed her header. But Ceasar, again, kept Roma in the game with an outstanding stop. The effort woke the visitors up and they fought back through Pilgrim: her right-footed shot was just wide in the 56th minute. But, it was Inter who found the way through, giving them some breathing room: Wallaert burst through, played it into Polli, but it was Troelsgaard who tapped it home. 2-0, the goal that sealed that Champions League spot.

The rest was simply excellent. In the 79th minute when Bugeja gave it away, Di Guglielma got her shot away, but Cesar was there again. And, in the 80th minute, the icing on the cake: a shot-cross from Schough found Bartoli who acrobatically volleyed home perfectly. It was a screamer, that nestled into the corner. Three points and a performance to be proud. Inter Women have done it: they are strong and they'll be in Europe. They did it with style, hunger and energy. Next year they'll play in the Champions League: and this is no luck, it is a magnificent reality.
