Inter heart, Bayern beaten on penalties: Nerazzzurri through to the Youth League Quarter - Finals

Inter Primavera have written another page in their brilliant campaign in the Youth League. Zanchetta's side have reached the quarter-finals after beating Bayern Munich on penalties. A display of heart, character and quality. Everything happened: Topalovic missed a penalty in the second half, Alexiou scored in the 94th, Berenbruch hit the bar a minute later and Calligaris' brilliant performance as he saved Chavez's decisive penalty. After just five minutes, Karl tried his luck from distance but his effort went over. Inter responded in the eighth minute as Mosconi played in Spinaccè but his effort was denied by Klanac. Bayern went ahead in the 20th minute: Chavez shot from 20 metres and following a slight pause from Calligaris, the ball ended up in the back of the net. The Nerazzurri went close in the 28th minute through Berenbruch, who hit the post with a left-footed shot. The German side almost scored a second in the 30th minute, but he was denied by the woodwork . Inter increased the pressure on Bayern in the second half. De Pieri was brought down in the 61st minute and Inter were awarded a penalty. Topalovic could not convert from the spot. Bayern tried to finish the game off with Chavez in the 63rd minute, but Calligaris put it out for a corner. The Inter goalkeeper made a big save in the 82nd minute to deny the Bayern number 10. When it all seemed as if it had ended, Inter joy burst out in the 94th minute, De Pieri assisted Alexiou who converted the equaliser from yards out. In stoppage time, Berenbruch hit the bar in the 95th minute. It went to penalties and Inter Primavera proved deadly. Berenbruch, Spinaccè, De Pieri, Zouin and Levelli all scored. Bayern fell when it came to the final penalty as Calligaris denied Chavez, gifting Inter a brilliant win and a further step towards their goal. They will face Trabzonspor in the quarter-finals.
