Youth League, Inter vs. Shakhtar live on Inter TV on Wednesday

After last week’s draw with Club Brugge, Inter Primavera are preparing to return to UEFA Youth League action on Matchday 3 of the league phase. The Nerazzurri face Shakhtar Donetsk at the KONAMI Women & Talent Center on Wednesday, 21 October at 16:00 CEST.

YOUTH LEAGUE FORMAT

As in previous seasons, the Youth League begins with two separate paths: one aligned with the Champions League League Phase and another featuring the domestic champions from UEFA’s 52 member associations.

The Champions League path features the youth teams of all 36 clubs competing in Europe’s premier club competition, including Inter Primavera. The league phase mirrors the first six matchdays of the Champions League League Phase, with the same fixtures played across both competitions: three at home and three away. The top 22 teams will progress to the round of 32, with the draw scheduled for Friday 11 December.

The domestic champions path features 50 teams and is played over three two-legged knockout rounds. The ten sides that emerge from the third qualifying round will secure a place in the Youth League round of 32.

KNOCKOUT STAGE AND FINAL FOUR

From the round of 32 onwards, the competition moves into a single-leg knockout format. The teams finishing 1st to 6th in the Champions League path will face those ranked 17th to 22nd, while the sides placed 7th to 16th will take on the ten qualifiers from the domestic champions path. A new open draw will be held for the round of 16. As usual, the tournament will culminate in a four-team final stage featuring the semi-finals and final.

PRIMAVERA FORM

Inter U20 have recorded three consecutive draws since returning from the international break. A 2-2 league draw at home to Como was followed by a 1-1 stalemate against Club Brugge on Matchday 2 of the league phase in the Youth League. Carrara gave Bigica’s side the lead after just 26 seconds, but the Belgians equalised in the 87th minute. Their latest league outing against Lazio also ended 2-2, with all four goals coming in the first half after Inter had taken a 2-0 lead. The Nerazzurri are currently joint top of the league with Empoli and Parma on 15 points after seven games.

THE OPPOSITION: SHAKHTAR

Bigica’s side sit 29th in the Youth League standings with one point, while their opponents Shakhtar have yet to get off the mark. The Ukrainians lost 1-0 away to PSV on Matchday 1 before a 2-1 defeat to AEK Athens in the last round. Tiutiunov has scored Shakhtar’s only goal in the competition so far. The squad is made up of Ukrainian players and Brazilian midfielder Ryan Roberto. They are coached by Oleksiy Byelik, a former striker who played for Ukraine against Italy in the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
