Zieliński’s wonder goal: "We'd practiced that set piece..."
Team
— Nov 2nd 2025A fanstastic goal from the Polish midfielder that gave Inter the 1-0 lead at Verona. Straight from a Calhanoglu corner to a sensational volley
A goal for the history books, the kind that makes you say: "Do you remember that Zielinski volley from a corner?" That's exactly what happened in Verona for Inter's opening goal. Calhanoglu swung in a sharp cross from a corner, finding Piotr Zielinski perfecly positioned at the edge of the box. Boom - a first-time right-footed volley, that slammed under the crossbar. A stunning blend of precision (including in Calhanoglu's flawless delivery) and power. Simply beautiful.
A goal that helped Inter edge past Verona in a hard-fought 1–2 win, sealed later by an own goal. For Zielinski, it was his first Serie A goal since his brace against Juventus a year ago, and remarkably, it marks his eleventh consecutive Serie A season with at least one goal. Only two other players have managed to score in each of the last eleven Serie A campaigns (since 2015/16): Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Here’s what Zielinski had to say after the match:
“Winning a game like that is never easy. Verona caused us lots of problems, but we won and we are happy, even though a 12:30 kick off is always tough. We suffered a bit and maybe had a touch of luck with the winning goal, that’s true. We could have done better, but we knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game. We play every three days, so there’s no time to dwell on this win. We have to give everything in the Champions League to win in front of our fans. The goal? Yes, it was great, it came from something we worked on in training yesterday. Angelo Palombo pays a lot of attention to these details. He studies other leagues and came up with the idea. We tried it once in training and this was the second time. Of course, a big thanks to Calhanoglu for the perfect assist. The coach? He has clear ideas, he's a great coach and we always try to give our best. When you're playing every three days, sometimes it's not possible to win comfortably by three or four goals, but we're satisfied. We trust the coach and listen to him, he's doing an excellent job. ”
